Team

Founder & Chairman

Mr. Ben Ng has been in the technology venture investment business for 18 years in both Asia and the US. He also has 15 years of operating and entrepreneurial experience in the technology industry, in marketing and engineering. He has an Engineering Degree in Computer Science from the University of New South Wales and an MBA from Macquarie University–both in Sydney, Australia.

Ben is a Vietnamese-born Chinese, and left Vietnam as a “boat people” at 18. He subsequently spent months in a refugee camp before he was given refuge in Australia. This experience in his formative years has led him to find R2 Social Ltd., a social enterprise that leverages technology to create a better future for refugees. His goal is to turn R2 Social into a leading incubator that works with tech startups, whose products and services will create positive impact for the refugee community. Its other initiatives will include coding and entrepreneurship trainings to empower refugees to contribute productively to the tech industry and society.

Global Operations Director

Shirley is deeply passionate about social impact and innovation. As a Bill & Melinda Gates Millennium Scholar and community leader, she strongly believes that each individual has a crucial role and responsibility in shaping society. Born in Vietnam, she immigrated to the U.S. with her family at the age of seven as a refugee due to her father having served in the Vietnam War alongside of American soldiers. Her personal experiences make her greatly compassionate towards the displaced population, and encourage her to find solutions for the refugee crisis. Under the leadership of Mr. Ben Ng, she helped establish R2 Social Ltd., a tech start-up incubator in Kampala, Uganda with the mission of empowering refugees. She is based in Shanghai, and serves as its Global Operations Director.

Shirley has successfully managed culturally diverse teams in NGO, start-up, and MNC settings. She holds a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel-Hill with a dual major in International Studies and Asian Studies. She is fluent in English, Vietnamese, and Mandarin.

What I need:

Home page:

What content goes here? I prefer that you specify which sections should be on the home page, and what content goes in these sections.

So far, I only have the image photo from unsplash and the powerpoint slides that I turned into content. Do you like the content text as I have done it or would you like it a different way.

I will add a dummy form for the newsletter subscription but feel free to send the URL to the actual form if you have it.

About page:

I have the bios for you and Ben. Is that it for the about page?

FAQs page:

Is this page necessary? How do you anticipate frequently asked questions if they have not been asked yet? And if you have an idea what these might be, why not turn them into content for the Home or About pages?

Blog page:

I can build a dummy page for this just to show what it might look like but please share content for this if you have it.

Contact Us:

I can design a form to go here but what information would you like to ask on the contact form? Examples of other forms I have done are here:

https://ugandabikesafaris.com/contact/ https://airtable.com/shrkwvdNHX1Ua3rAb

They can be embedded or direct links. Also, if you have a phone contact or a physical address that I can add to this page, that would be great.

R2 Social Company Profile:

“R2 Social Ltd. is a technology start-up incubator with the mission of empowering refugees. It was founded in 2018 by Ben Ng, a Vietnamese-born Chinese and former refugee. Ben left Vietnam as a “boat person” at 18, and subsequently spent months in a refugee camp before he was given refuge in Australia. This personal experience coupled with 18 years of success in the technology venture investment business has led him to form R2 Social.

The current dilemma is that there are 68.5 million displaced people worldwide. They cannot use their ideas or talents to become assets to society without proper opportunities. R2 Social exists to ensure that talent should be nurtured, not wasted. Our vision is to see refugee talents recognized, maximized, and transformed into assets to their host countries.

Our four main focuses are leading-edge digital technology, refugees, entrepreneurship, and emerging markets. We work with tech startups, whose products and services will create positive impact for the refugee community. We also provide coding and entrepreneurship trainings to empower refugees to contribute productively to the tech industry and society.”
